Thembisa foundation gives back through sport

The games were held at Ivory Park Ext 2, Lord Khanyile Hall Sports Ground, an area where Lerato Lamola spent most of his teen years.

The Lerato Lamola hosted a successful run at their annual winter games in Thembisa.

Monga Ndlovu, the tournament coordinator at the Lerato Lamola Winter Games, said the games started on May 28 and ended on June 18.

“The Lerato Lamola Winter Games is a sports event was brought to life by the Lerato Lamola Foundation, an organisation named after a Thembisa-born footballer, Lerato Lamola, who is currently playing for Marumo Gallants.”

The games were established in 2015 by Lerato himself, who was then still playing for a Premier Division team, Bloemfontein Celtics.

The games were held at Ivory Park Ext 2, Lord Khanyile Hall Sports Ground, an area where Lerato spent most of his teen years.

“This year’s attendance was overwhelming. The tournament attracted teams from Soweto, Alex, Benoni, and Mapela.

Our biggest highlight was the number of school shoes we collected.

We have surpassed the previous years, collecting over 400 pairs of school shoes in the last five weeks,” said Nldovu.

This year’s tournament was won by Bridge Town FC and Nldovu wishes everybody luck in the next edition, which will be in May or June next year, 2023.
