Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) annual awards ceremony recently took place and Central Gauteng Lions are proud of their winners.
Having walked away with several key awards, Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) and Lions Cricket could not be more proud of their exceptional list of winners, says CGL CEO Jono Leaf-Wright.
“We are so excited for those who took home the accolades and feel privileged to have walked this journey with them. I cannot sufficiently re-iterate the endless hours, passion and determination that so many of our team-mates dedicate to this game that we love.
“I would like to thank those too who were recognised or narrowly missed out on the win; keep your head up and keep pushing hard, it’s because of you that the game continues to thrive.”

In March this year, the Imperial Lions were crowned 4-Day Domestic Series champions after the season was prematurely ended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The win undoubtedly led to the Pitch Vision Coach of the Year being awarded to Wandile Gwavu.
“Thank you to CSA, CGL, North West, the players, fans and my family for this award. We are experiencing extremely challenging times, so an evening of warmth, friendship and pure celebration is so appreciated.
“I would also like to congratulate all other award winners as I firmly believe that recognition is key to achieving even greater heights in sport. Lastly, to those behind the scenes, we see you; we value you. Thank you.”
CSA Blind Cricketer of the Year Buhle Bidla of CGL said that it was an absolute honour to receive this award.
“This award means so much to me and perhaps more importantly to those who contributed towards my form and achievements, both nationally and provincially. We all say thank you Cricket SA for recognising blind cricket: Today we simply could not be happier.”
Odette Allen, from the Gauteng Scorers Association, is thrilled that CGL took the win in this department too.
“We are absolutely honoured and humbled to receive this award again. I would like to thank our executives and all our members for their tireless work and professional contributions that made it all possible. A huge thank you too to CEO Jono Leaf-Wright and all of CGL for their support.”
Leaf-Wright said that it is the powerful pipeline CGL has in place that excites him the most.
“Whilst winners such as Grant Roelofsen (Momentum One-Day Cup Cricketer of the season and Domestic Players’ Player of the season) and Wandile Makwetu (Domestic Newcomer of the season) no longer play for us, they are both products of our pipeline and we remain immensely supportive and proud of them.
“This is something that we are exceptionally excited about as a whole for cricket in South Africa.
“We continue to focus on #BringingUpTheBest with our objective being to reflect, recognise and celebrate the excellent talent within the Union.
“Congratulations to all our winners and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do for the game that is so very dear to all of us,” said Leaf-Wright.
