According to owner Armando Loureiro they have finally been given the go-ahead to resume golf by the sports minister.

“With this, as expected in fighting the pandemic, certain criteria need to be met by the club and our membership in order to comply with the regulations. We urge all our golfers to respect and adhere to the regulations set out by GolfRSA.”

The regulations at Avion include:

All golfers will be temperature-screened on arrival.

Golfers will be required to list their name and telephone number on arrival.

Credit, debit and EFTs will be the only source of payment, no cash.

No alcohol will be allowed on the premises of Avion Park, which includes bringing your own.

Non-alcoholic refreshments will be for sale.

Only four players will be allowed in the pro-shop at any given time. Social distancing must be adhered to and masks are to be worn.

Only the women’s and men’s toilets will be open for use. No other facility will be open.

Any player over the age of 60 will need to sign an indemnity form prior to playing.

“We are planning a take-away kitchen service in the near future and details will be made available once we have the planned operation in place,” Loureiro said.

Tee-off time bookings can be done telephonically by calling 011 970 7000.

“We are extremely thankful to the government for reopening our sector and look forward to seeing you all at the club.”

Kempton Park Golf Club

Amanda Matthee, general manager at Kempton Park Golf Club, said they would be functioning in line with GolfRSA’s outlined regulations.

“The club will exclusively open for golf games and our half-way house will be open to serve stop-and-go food such as hamburgers, for example, as players are not allowed to sit and dine.”

There will be only one tee-off, which means all players will start at the first hole,” Matthee explained.

Golfers may commence with play from 6.50am? Golfers will be sanitised upon entry and the screening process will request identification number and contact details. Temperatures will be measured, recorded and kept up to date.

No alcohol will be allowed on the premises. Players are urged to maintain strict social distancing and are discouraged from socialising in groups prior to and after games.

Golfers are asked to keep to their game times and payments will be made via EFT.

Due to the recent tragic death of a beloved member, Mike Sebanz, security remains a priority.

The club has interviewed and requested quotes from numerous security companies who can offer the best protection of the premises, said Matthee.

“We would also like to add that the club, with the help of Mike Sebanz, facilitated upgrades to its services and greens. Our greens look beautiful.”
