Norkem Park High School football gets A+

The team played 54 competitive games with 41 wins, eight draws and only five losses.

NORKEM Park High School finished their long football season on a high taking the shield at the Grey College/Nedbank Soccer tournament in Bloemfontein.

The first team had a fantastic year by winning the league and cup double without losing a game. They also won the St Peters Sports Festival and were losing finalists at both the St David’s and Waterstone College tournaments.

They finished third at the African Bank u-18s Cup.

The team played 54 competitive games with 41 wins, eight draws and only five losses, scoring 140 goals and only conceding 42 with a goal difference of +98.

This would not have been possible without the support of the junior and u-17 teams who also had highly successful seasons.

The u-14 team won the cup and finished second in their league, with the u-15 team finishing third. The u-17s also completed the double, taking the cup and league and provided the nucleus of the first team for the next two seasons.

The Norkem Park girls’ team also fared well, winning the shield at St Peters and competing in the JVW Girls League.

Andrew Gifford, football co-ordinator at the school, said: “The continued success of the teams can be attributed to the support of the sponsors, Flame Diner, EEC-Tap a Tag, Pandora and Saturn Clothing with the dedication and hard work put in by coaching staff Mvuyisi Vikwa, Kagiso Mphateng, Themba Mphalele and Teballo Mmotong.

“We would not be able to compete without these ex-pupils and coaches. With all the negativity regarding the school in the press over the past few months, it is great to see football and sport providing a platform for the school to show off its talented students.”
