Parents get involved in children’s soccer games

According to the organiser, Nhlanhla Ngwenya, the meeting was called in order to update parents

Football coaches of the Tembisa Mamelodi Sundowns Junior Development Satellite held a parents’ meeting on August 19 before their u-15 junior team played against the Roodepoort based, Florida FC.

According to the organiser, Nhlanhla Ngwenya, the meeting was called in order to update parents about the new developments and progress of the Tembisa Mamelodi Sundowns FC Junior Development Satellite.

Organiser Nhlanhla Ngwenya, Head Coach Jabu Mthanyelo, and Coach Victor Sebitja at Winnie Mandela Primary School on August 19.

Above 50 parents attended the meeting and agreed to support their children and programs which aim to find potential young recruits for Mamelodi Sundowns. “These youth satellites polish young players and feed the South African premier side. Some senior players playing at the premier side were groomed from this satellite,” said Ngwenya.

Issues discussed during the meeting included player profiling, training sessions, role of Mamelodi Sundowns FC, role of parents, local and national matches, school work and mental development programs, sponsorship, contribution and partnership.

These young soccer players come from different parts of Tembisa such as Ililiba, Phomolong section, Kempton West and Ivory Park. They are 10 to 15 years old.

These are the parents of young fooball players under the Tembisa Mamelodi Sundowns FC Junior Development Satellite.

Ngwenya added that the boys are not paying a cent to be part of the football development program. A big challenge, however, is that some of the players cannot afford to travel to training session.

“The community is urged to support these boys in any way so talented youths can reach new heights in the world of football,” said Ngwenya.

The next trials for intake run from August 26 until October 1, at Winnie Mandela Primary school next to Winnie Clinic and library.

“We need players who were born in 2005 or 2006. Boys and girls should bring their original certificates and their own training kit,” added Ngwenya.

The game between the Tembisa Mamelodi Sundowns Juniors u-15 against Florida FC ended up in a 2-1 score, in favour of the local boys.
