Le Roux, Swart crowned short distance champs
The middle distance races will start on Saturday from Smithfield
WITH the last short distance races flown from Reddersburg on Saturday, Riverpark Pigeon Club has announced its short distance champions for the 2017 season.
The club’s single bird, young bird short distance champ is Le Roux Lofts (Pieter le Roux), winning by 13 points from Blackie Swart, with Tallies Lofts (Jan Taljaard) in third place and Fred van Rensburg in fourth.
The single bird, old bird short distance champ is Blackie Swart, with Pine Pienaar second, Beano Daschner third and Henry Mostert fourth.
The all bird young bird short distance champ is Blackie Swart with Le Roux Lofts second, Tallies Loft third and Hilton Pitout fourth.
The all bird, old bird short distance champ is Blackie Swart, followed by Pine Pienaar, Henry Mostert and Doves Nest Guest House (Gawie Botha).
Saturday’s race, which was an average distance of 440km for Riverpark Pigeon Club (RPC) members, turned out to be the toughest so far this season for the pigeons. Besides the north west winds, the pigeons had overcast and rainy conditions to contend with on the way home.
The young birds had a nett flying time of five hours 56 minutes and four seconds and the old birds had a nett flying time of five hours 56 minutes and 16 seconds.
Riverpark had 231 pigeons in the young bird race and 237 in the old bird race.
The winner of the young bird race was Hilton Pitout, with Blackie Swart second. The old bird winner was Blackie Swart with Hilton Pitout second.
Pitout and Swart are contending for the best bird position in the old bird category. Swart is currently ahead.
