Norkem Primary soccer and netball festival set for May 20-22

The mission of the festival is to give children from all backgrounds an opportunity to play in a professional and well organised environment

THE annual Norkem Park Primary School soccer and netball festival will be held over the weekend of May 20-22.

This festival has been running for 14 years after starting in 2002 with only seven soccer and seven netball teams.

The festival now caters for 14 soccer and 14 netball teams. Over 400 learners attend this festival and most of these learners are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The mission of the festival is to give children from all backgrounds an opportunity to play in a professional and well organised environment. Very few children get to play professional sport and this is a great opportunity for them to feel like superstars.

This year the participating schools are Norkem Park Primary, Kempton Park Primary, Nobel Primary, Shangri-La Academy, Alston Primary, Cyrildene Primary, Klopperpark Primary, Ekurhuleni Primary, Wendywood Primary, Crystal Park Primary, Northridge Primary, Tlamatlama Primary, Observatory Girls Primary and Schiettocht Primary.

The festival also hosts players from Phalaborwa and Cape Town and the Norkem Park learners host and entertain these players.
