Traffic from Pierneef Street can’t move

People look at you as if you are in the wrong indicating to turn

CHANTELLE CONNOWAY writes:

I am writing to you as I have stayed in Birchleigh for many years.

I am on the corner of Elgin Road and Pierneef Street and take my kids to school daily.

On Elgin Road there is a yellow block painted to allow us to come out of Pierneef Street into Elgin.

Daily we have people sitting in traffic in the yellow block and therefore we cannot get in or out of our road.

People look at you as if you are in the wrong, indicating to turn, and believe it or not, swear at you when you ask them to move.

There is no traffic control and it is a huge frustration. People simply look ahead of them ignoring you when you wait or even make sure they move more forward so you cannot turn.

I also have a problem with people ignoring a stop sign when they drive, it is a matter of slow down and go.

My son goes to Laerskool Birchleigh and daily I sit and count vehicles ignoring the stop street in front of the school.

There is a sign to say you are not allowed to park on the left and a red line painted and people even ignore this.

I have had to ask people several times to stop so I could cross the road with my son. What happens if a child crosses the street and gets run over?

The school wrote a letter to the parents asking them to adhere to the road rules but they even ignored the letter and just park on the side of the road.

Elgin Road is a busy road and so full of potholes one literally has to drive zig-zag across the road to make sure you do not damage your vehicle.

Kobeli Mokheseng, metro spokesman, replies:

We will forward the complaint to the relevant precinct commander.
