Disabled parking being abused

I have been in a wheelchair for 10 years and for me my independence is very important.

For some people it’s very easy to take that away from me and I am sure a lot of wheelchair users will agree. They abuse disabled parking just to run quickly to the shop or offload something.

The disabled parking is a bigger than normal parking for a very good reason, we need that extra space to take out our wheelchairs. A normal parking simply won’t work.

I’m very disappointed with a business at Glen Balad Mall as one of its musicians abuses this parking to “offload” sound equipment – which he didn’t. He just stood there talking to people.

We asked the waiter that he move his car and all of a sudden he got very personal and said he was crippled, which he clearly was not.

As a wheelchair user I ask you not to take away our independence, we have more than enough challenges each day.
