Glen Marais cat shot with pellet gun

'Do you think you're fit to breathe the air that God has given us?'

ANONYMOUS from Glen Marais writes:

My cat was shot with a pellet gun while in the garden of our home on December 11 between 1 and 2pm.

Worrying that she was badly injured, I took her to the vet the following day – who confirmed she was shot with a pellet gun.

She had been shot on her left side and the bullet lodged in her back.

The vet bill reached over R1 500 and as a pensioner, I can’t afford this kind of money; and all this, because of someone who decided to use his or her pellet gun in a residential area.

As a result of this incident, I would like to ask a few questions to the person who shot our cat:

1. Why do you shoot at cats with a pellet gun?

2. Will you be sitting at a braai, ‘tanked up’ with ‘Klippies’ and Coke and brag, by saying to your friends: “Eish, I went hunting on Sunday and shot a black Panther.” Little will they know that it was an innocent domestic/house cat. Will they applaud you and say: “Give the man a ‘dop’?”

3. Are you a follower of our Saviour God Almighty, or are you one who goes to church to dodge the devil?

4. Do you think you’re fit to breathe the air that God has given us, after trying to take the breath away from an innocent animal?

5. Do you love yourself? I know that it says in the Bible: “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” It doesn’t say: “Shoot living creatures which are gifts that God has blessed us with.”

Your cruelty has taken a pensioner’s and a young woman’s food off the table, because of the high costs involved. Thankfully, our cat is slowly recovering from the traumatic experience.

Please take note: air rifles are not allowed to be discharged in a residential area. That is an offense.

Kempton SPCA is aware of the situation and is busy with investigations. The SAPS is also investigating firing an air rifle in a residential area, as well as cruelty to animals.
