New mom ‘verbally abused’ by nurse

One cannot help but wonder if we will ever conquer acts of xenophobia

ANONYMOUS from Tembisa writes:

I was pregnant and admitted to Tembisa Hospital for two weeks. I eventually had a Caesarian section on August 25 to deliver my baby boy.

I would like to comment on the way I was treated by the team of doctors that operated on me. They made the whole procedure easy and comfortable. I was scared before the operation but they made sure I was comfortable and kept asking if I was okay throughout the whole procedure.

Unfortunate I cannot remember all their names except for Dr Chauke.

After the operation I suffered on the hands of one nurse just because I am a Zimbabwean. She insulted me in front of patients for no apparent reason and kept on emphasising that we Zimbabweans were a pain. Being Zimbabwean had nothing to do with what we were dealing with at that moment.

Most patients just wondered where that came from, though they couldn’t say it straight to her face. Even the other nurses kept quiet.

With such things happening at public institutions, moreover a government one, one cannot help but wonder if we will ever conquer acts of xenophobia.
