Police arrest 77 suspects and recover 64 vehicles, firearms in operations

The Rapid Response Services held operations that led to 77 arrests, and the recovery of 64 vehicles and five firearms.

The Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 77 suspects, recovering 64 vehicles and five firearms.

The members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 28 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and grievous bodily harm, house and common robbery, contravening the Dangerous Weapons Act, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of house-breaking equipment, possession of unwrought precious metal, house-breaking, malicious damage to property, attempted kidnapping, murder, rape and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The officers recovered 64 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with seven arrests for possession of these vehicles, and five unlicensed firearms accompanying six arrests.

In further policing, officers made 36 arrests for the possession of and dealing in drugs, confiscating heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal meth in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
