Kiddies market day nurtures entrepreneurial skills

The concept encourages innovation and resourcefulness, allowing young participants to learn valuable skills without the need for significant financial investment.

Miranda Myburgh from Coffee Cabin hosted a successful kiddies market aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among children, on September 28.

The Sizzlin’ Pop and Treasures stall was run by 13-year-old Oleseng Morakile, 11-year-old Linda Sithole and nine-year-old Sizwe Sithole.

“This is our third event this year,” said Myburgh.

“We hold one every quarter. To the young entrepreneurs out there, I encourage you to follow your dreams, no matter how challenging the journey may seem. Just push through, even when support is lacking.”

Myburgh urged the Kempton Park community to attend future events to show support for the young entrepreneurs showcasing their products.

The market featured children as young as nine selling a variety of items, including sweets, chocolates, cookies, and handmade crafts such as toys and tote bags.

Among the sellers and their unique offerings was eight-year-old Ella Summer, who captured attention with her sale of silkworms, something no one else at the market was selling.

The Tamkei sisters, 11-year-old Christine and 14-year-old Jasmine had their crochet items on sale.

Fourteen-year-old Lucy Miller, who began crocheting animals two years ago, also had her creations for sale.

Lucy’s father praised her proactive nature and talent, noting that instead of spending time on video games, she dedicates her free time to crocheting.

The day’s entertainment was provided by the father-daughter duo, Willie and Lene Kloppers, who delighted the audience with guitar music and singing.
Myburgh said that the next kiddies market will take place in December, with the date to be confirmed soon.

Rose-Jane Booysen (14) was selling her hand-made tote bags and handmade crochet animals, among other things.
