A few individuals remained hospitalised for some time, and others were discharged after sustaining injuries including broken legs from jumping out of windows to evade the flames.

Glory Zinayi, a community advocate working closely with the affected residents, has been at the forefront of co-ordinating relief efforts.

She and her political party, the MK Party, embarked on a mission to investigate the cause of the fire, though its origins remain unclear.

The fire left 23 people from five households without shelter, and they urgently need help with essential resources.

“With schools reopening soon, learners need uniforms and educational materials. The occupants lost all their belongings in the fire. We have provided immediate relief with clothes, blankets, curtains and food,” Zinayi said.

During a visit to deliver donations, a local induna and the affected families expressed gratitude but emphasised the need for continued support.

Five temporary shacks were built for the displaced families, but further help is necessary because one shack is insufficient for even a single family.

The hostel, where many of the displaced lived, remains neglected by the relevant authorities responsible for providing assistance and feedback on a way forward.

The party has pledged to remain on the ground to offer ongoing support and find permanent solutions for the affected families while still providing essential supplies during this difficult time.
