Ekurhuleni’s LGBTQI+ community hosted a gay pride celebration recently at the Emoyeni grounds.
This was the 17th annual event that gave the LGBTQI+ community a platform to showcase creativity while giving the participants a safe place to do so.
Tshidiso Tsheola, the chairperson of the Thato One Big Family, said the event aimed to unite queer residents.

“This marks 17 years of queer pride, and we are here to stand out and celebrate the hard work put in to ensure the LGBTQI+ community has a voice and stands out in any given situation.”
MjitaKazi Willy, an administrator for the Ekurhuleni Pride Organising Committee, said the event was for all queer residents of Thembisa.
“The event united us in Thembisa to celebrate our pride with everyone. The fight for our rights goes on, but we have to celebrate the success we have had as a team.”
