Soul singer makes waves in the music industry

Mthetwa describes her genre as an inspirational soul.

Tumelo Mthethwa, also known as MeloBeGreat, is a talented musician from Birch Acres, who aims to take the music industry by storm with her sound and inspiring message.

The 38-year-old has already made a name for herself in the industry and she was recently nominated in the newcomer category at the Basadi in Music Awards. She was also a recipient of the SAMRO Music Creators Fund.

“The kind of music I create carries a message of inspiration, to encourage and inspire people to find their purpose and to live a purpose-driven life.

“Now and then I also write music to worship God. It is normally accompanied by a soulful melody,” said Mthethwa.

“I think the music I used to listen to while growing up shaped the kind of sound and style I later developed and adopted as my own,” she added.

Mthethwa comes from a family of musicians.

Mthethwa said while growing up she was surrounded by music.

She began playing the piano at the age of six at Mmabana Arts and Culture Foundation in Mahikeng and holds a Grade One in Music Theory from the Trinity College of London.

“Music has always been a part of me. Both my parents can play musical instruments and can hold good notes,” said Mthethwa.

“My parents have always been supportive. My mom passed away last year and always wanted me to sing gospel,” added Mthethwa.

Mthethwa has collaborated with well-known artists such as DJ Clock, Molemi, Zwai Bala, DJ Guru, B3nchmarQSA, DJ Mpako, to name a few. She has also shared the stage with HHP, KB Motsilanyane and many more.

Beyond music, Mthethwa holds a BA in Communications degree and is passionate about philanthropy.

Tumelo Mthethwa aims to take the music industry by storm.

She is a marketing and social media specialist and hosts a weekly radio show on Sunday evenings from 18:00 to 20:00 on Hope Alive Radio.

Mthethwa released her debut EP, Naledi earlier this year. It features seven tracks.

“I am looking forward to making more music. I would also like to unearth talent and create platforms for unknown names to find their voices and be heard,” said Mthethwa.
