Thato Matome, a former drug addict and the organisation’s founder, has inspired hundreds with his story of hope.

By starting the TDRC Matome hoped to help the people of Thembisa defeat addiction and, for the last two years, his work has touched many lives.

Matome and his mother used their garage as a safe space where addicts could be free and accept that they needed help before being booked into a rehabilitation centre.

When speaking to the Thembisan, Matome said the growth of his rehabilitation centre means he needs to take greater steps.

“With the growth of the centre, we decided to grow our branches through collaboration with other organisations in the area.“We want to establish opportunities for the people who are coming from the rehab so that they do not relapse or find themselves in a situation where they do not have the means to provide for their families.

“We chose to collaborate with organisations that can help us find resources because they will help us welcome our heroes into the community, making them feel welcomed and cherished for their efforts of taking this second chance and using it to set an example to those in doubt.”
