Local fashion designer strives to uplift the community

Maluleka said when he started designing clothes for his brand he wanted to bring hope back to the community, specifically to teenagers.

Seventeen-year-old Thamsanqa Maluleka was born and raised in Thembisa’s Emoyeni Section.

He is a proud fashion designer and owner of a local brand called Silwela Impumelelo.

He started his career in fashion design last year as a way of trying to render his services to the community.

Maluleka said when he started designing clothes for his brand he wanted to bring hope back to the community, specifically to teenagers.

Thamsanqa Maluleka is ready to conquer the fashion industry.

He also wanted to help prevent the rise of drug abuse within communities by doing something that is meaningful to the people.

Maluleka said throughout his journey his family played a crucial role.

“My family has always motivated me to keep doing what is right for the community. They remind me that success is our priority in life and they also help with by sharing more ideas.”

He said this has made him not want to give up.

“Growing up I witnessed my parents struggling for me to be a better child.”

Thamsanqa Maluleka said that challenges faced by his industry peers serve as a motivation.

“We have to maintain brand identity and consistency. Sourcing materials and suppliers can also be difficult at times.

“As much as it is not easy to do everything yourself, I always push myself towards being successful in whatever I do with hopes of wanting to do great in this industry.

“These challenges are proof that my dream will pay off and I will be here to witness it when it finally aligns,” he said.

“The people of Thembisa can expect a lot from me. I have more knowledge in branding and designing now than I did in 2023,” he said.
