He began his career in theatre in 2008 and has since showcased his skills on stages across the country.

His latest offering, Journey to the South, was staged in the State Theatre.

Sibusiso Mchunu and team take over the theater for the month of September.

The play focuses on betrayals, trafficking and sacrifices in families. It also dwells on the hardships of GBV.
Mchunu said artists featured in the play are fan favourites.

“We had various artists’ actors who graced us with their skills and ensured that the show ran smoothly. The play featured elite actors that the community sees on their screens every week.

“I was excited to have them performing live with us and telling beautiful stories,” he said.

Mchunu added that due to the sensitive topics covered the play was restricted to only persons over the age of 13.

“My goal was to start a conversation with this play, when it is all said and done I want it to be a discussion as to how can we curb the growth of trafficking and GBV.

“We need to start these conversations no matter how painful they are but it is a topic that we must start and shed light on it hoping that it will bring about change within communities.”

The play was written by Christopher Mtsweni and Sibusiso Mchunu.
