Police visit Shangri-La Academy to address bullying

Bullying is an unwanted, aggressive behaviour among aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance.

Kempton Park SAPS Social Crime Prevention co-ordinator Sgt Ntombi Abrokwa recently visited Shangri-La Academy to address bullying at the school.

She was joined by firearm officer Sergeant Kgabo Naila, Sector Two manager Sargeant Matome Njana, Sargeant Mashatola and the CPF representatives from Sector Two.

Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego said the purpose of the initiative was to empower the learners about bullying.

“Bullying is an unwanted, aggressive behaviour among aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. It also involves a real or perceived power imbalance of strength,” said Abrokwa.

“It is a repeated behaviour and can be physical or verbal. Other types of bullying include cyberbullying that can happen online, or through a cellphone or on websites such as Youtube.”

Abrokwa stated that stopping bullying requires a commitment from parents, teachers, and learners alike, creating an environment where children can thrive without fear.

She encouraged everyone to work together to prevent bullying and for learners to report to their teachers.
