Local NPO’s annual event brings the community together

The Christian Family Church’s CFCI Welfare recently hosted its annual Serve Our City event.

The event brought together volunteers and community members in a powerful display of community participation.

“This year’s initiative saw a remarkable turnout to rejuvenate residential areas, orphaned homes, public spaces and infrastructure all to serve our communities,” said Dr Beverley Wolmarans, co-founder of Christian Family Church International and founder of the CFCI Welfare team.

According to Wolmarans the project, known as Serve Our City, sparked countless heartwarming and inspiring stories.

“We had nearly 800 Christian Family Church volunteers going out to do 60 projects, an increase from last year’s 54, demonstrating the growing impact of this event,” said Wolmarans.

“Small yet selfless acts of love made a significant difference across various areas, including Boksburg, Witfield, Zuurfontein, Benoni CBD, Actonville, Brakpan, Primrose, Edenvale, Kempton Park, and many others,” she added.

Wolmarans said the CFC volunteers addressed challenges in local communities.

Teams beautified communal parks, playgrounds, and busy intersections, while also painting crèches, NPOs and neighbours’ yards.

She added that the event included soup kitchens for the poor and activities for the elderly and vulnerable children.

Wolmarans said one family shelter in Kempton Park received a complete interior makeover as well as seeing to animal rescue plus a graveyard cleanup.

In an inspiring effort to tackle the city’s pothole problem, CFCI Welfare’s pothole teams took on the challenge with determination, repairing large potholes in Kempton Park, Benoni and KwaThema, Springs.

Residents of Sonderveld Caravan Park were equally blessed by the CFCI Dignity Mobile team, which provided haircuts, showers, fresh clothes, and meals, fruit and as such brought hope.

Wolmarans said the event created a buzz, with community members expressing their appreciation on social media and some even stopping to offer snacks and cold drinks to volunteers.

She said the day concluded with “trash the trash” teams efficiently removing heaps of rubble and trash, ensuring the city remained clean and vibrant.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to road-saver for their exceptional client service and generous donation of ten extra bags of asphalt, which allowed us to exceed our goals,” said Wolmarans.

She thanked Talisman Tool Hire in Boksburg for their professionalism and collaboration, ensuring our volunteers could carry out their tasks effectively.

“The success of Serve Our City Day was made possible by the collective efforts of all involved.

“We look forward to continuing this journey of collaboration and unity, working together to build a better country and create lasting positive change in our communities,” said Walmarans.
