Flying squad swoops down on suspects

Six suspects were arrested by Bfs between September 3 and September 12. Two abandoned vehicles were also recovered.

On September 3, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested three suspects in North Rand Road, Beyers Park, Boksburg, with the collaboration of the community and Legendary Guardians, recovering bags containing copper wires estimated at around R60 000.

Almost a week later on September 9, a vigilant community member again noticed two suspicious people going in and out the same manhole as the previous suspects.

Legendary Guardians were again summoned to investigate and upon arrival were informed the suspects left in a silver Ford Fiesta.

It did not take them long to trace the Fiesta where it had broken down in North Rand Road with the two occupants inside.

Benoni Flying Squad members were called for backup resulting in the two suspects, aged 37 and 39, being arrested for attempted theft, possession of suspected stolen property and damage to essential infrastructure.

On September 12, a 21-year-old suspect was arrested for shoplifting at a store in Kempton Gate Mall, Kempton Park.

Investigation continues into all cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the Boksburg and Kempton Park magistrate’s courts.
