The school’s principal, Malesela Tolo, received the accolades with humility and said the girls’ achievement was one of the greatest achievements in the school.
“We know we were not the only ones competing in the tournament and those we have beaten would have wished to beat us.
“Had we not won, we would have felt the great pain of losing but with commitment from the team, we have reaped great results.
“With the win in the books, we are starting a new season. Our goal is to balance the academic level of the school with sports,” he said.
Coach Matilda Hloka said she was pleased to see her learners getting an opportunity to play in finals.
“I have only started coaching these learners this year and what I liked about them was their commitment and eagerness. We normally practice Monday to Wednesday because we want to balance sports and academics.
“It is never an easy journey representing the province. We have encountered situations where we would play with injured players.

“We also played numerous games a day with few breaks between them but the highlight was that these learners never gave up.
“I am proud of calling the girls and the school champions.”
The team’s captain, Nthati Mampuru, said representing Gauteng was a great experience.
“I am glad I could lead the team to the finals. It was a group effort and we managed to win even though we did not take the first position. It shows that with great effort we will reach the number one position.

“At first I took netball as a hobby, something every girl child participates in at school.

“I believe netball is a sport that can help learners reach great heights. My parents were delighted that I could represent my school and the province by playing netball,” she said.
