Norkem Park hip-hop star makes a name for himself

Norkem Park musician Mfundo Zwane has turned his dream into reality.

The 21-year-old started his music journey in the hip-hop industry when he was just 14 and he said he’s never looked back.

Zwane’s biggest inspiration in life comes from watching documentaries and seeing how some people’s work has an impact on those around them.

He said that he always wanted to have an impact on others and he has come to realise that music has the power to impact many people.

“Listening to music by Pro Kid and seeing how people from the township relate to it, made me realise how music can have an impact on someone’s life. I told myself one day it has to be me who should have that kind of impact on someone’s life,” said Zwane.

Zwane said starting out in the music industry went smoothly for him.

“It was though I had been making music for many years.”

People knew of him because he used to battle other local rappers in a rap battle and he would outshine them.

Zwane said he did not realise that by taking part in rap battles he was making a name for himself in the industry.

“Currently everything is going really well because I have more fans and followers than before. My fans also promote my work by reposting and that helps me reach a much wider audience,” he said.

One of Zwane’s favourite quotes is that talent is not enough. He believes that talent needs to be driven by dedication.

He added that to be successful one must be a hard worker and push through the pain.

Zwane has been part of the Thembisa Halloween parties in different pubs, hip hop sessions, and he now hosts his events.
