Kempton Park police arrest suspects after targeting e-hail driver

On further investigation, it was discovered that the firearm used was a toy gun.

A victim reported told the Kempton Park SAPS Client Service Centre on August 20 that his vehicle and personal belongings were stolen on the corner of Bosch and Venter streets.

The victim, an Uber driver, alleged he was transporting two unknown males from Gold Valley Lodge to Kerk Street in Kempton Park when they suddenly pointed a firearm at him and robbed him of his silver Nissan Almera and Huawei cellphone.

The four suspects will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.

Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, the Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson, commended Sergeant Teffo and Constable Goeiman for their swift response and vigilance in patrolling the area, leading to the arrest of three suspects on the corner of Bosch and Venter streets.

A fourth suspect was later traced and found with the stolen cellphone.

Upon further investigation, SAPS discovered that the firearm used was a toy gun.

The four suspects will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, robbery, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Kempton Park SAPS station commander Lindani Ndlovu praised the two members for endangering their lives to ensure Kempton becomes a crime-free area.

“We will not rest until all criminals face the might of the law,” said Ndlovu.
