“With everything happening in Kempton Park and the country, we felt it would only be right to bring joy to our brothers and sisters,” said Tshepo Phalane, branch chairperson.

Phalane added that no girl child should worry about necessities like sanitary towels.

“As residents, we are thankful that the branch took their time to visit us. Residents can’t stop talking about what the branch did for us.

“It was good to see our children enjoying hotdogs along with all the goodies they brought us,” said one resident, Sandile Madubela.

Started in 2018, the branch normally engages in outreach programmes.

“We visited Pomona Kwa Max when the shacks burned down to help with cleanup, as some of our members stay there. We also visited the same place in 2021 during the lockdown to donate clothes and sanitary towels.

“This time we decided to visit Pomona Ext 125 as well.

“We plan to visit another area next to the shopping centre in Brentwood Park as residents there have asked us to visit them.

“Just last month, together with our colleagues in Thembisa, we painted a crèche,” said Phalane.

“We aim to visit other informal settlements around Kempton Park like the one in Brentwood and also return to Kwa Max.”

Phalane said it would be great if more people would join the initiatives hosted by the group.

“We can help clean our town, educate our brothers and sisters about the dangers of drug abuse and also feed and clothe the homeless around our town.”
