Local school donates clothes to orphanages

Learners brought clothes they no longer needed and decided to offer them to those who could benefit from them.

Tawana Children’s Home and Môrester Child and Youth Care Centre were recently the recipients of clothing that was donated by the learners of Laerskool Mooifontein Primary School.

Michelle Roskruge from Tawana Children’s Home said that she asked for this donation because she saw a need for it since they don’t get any assistance from the Department of Social Development.

“A lot of orphanages are closing down because they don’t have funds to keep operating.

The official handover was done by Laerskool Mooifontein deputy principal Marcel Manie.

“These clothes will help us clothe our children at our orphanages as we survive on public donations,” she said.

Laerskool Mooifontein deputy principal Marcel Minie spoke to the Kempton Express.

“We had the privilege of working with these two orphanages on this donation drive and we would like to thank all the parents who donated so generously,” she said.

She added that this is the first time the school has participated in something like this, and they would like to donate more going forward.

The Kempton Express sent an inquiry for comment to the Gauteng Department of Social Development on July 25, requesting comment for July 29.
