Police units arrest 135 suspects in operation

A total of 61 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with thirteen arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Between July 26 and August 1 Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 135 suspects, recovering 61 motor vehicles and 11 firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 76 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, business burglary, armed robbery, possession of car-breaking implements, domestic violence, contravention of protection order, theft, murder, rape, hijacking, intimidation and dealing in counterfeit goods.

A total of 61 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with thirteen arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

In further policing, 44 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigations continue in all cases.

Those arrested will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
