Market raises funds for the Birchleigh CPF

The CPF ensures that the community of Birchleigh is safe and protected at all times but they still need assistance with a few items such as torches and uniforms.

The community gathered to enjoy the Harvest Flea Market on August 3.

The market aimed to bring the community of Birchleigh together for a social event and allow small businesses to advertise their services and generate money.

Additionally, the event sought to raise much-needed funds for patrollers with the Birchleigh Community Police Forum (CPF).

The CPF ensures that the community of Birchleigh is safe and protected at all times but they still need assistance with a few items such as torches and uniforms.

Raising funds for the CPF at the market was a way of introducing the forum so that the community can get to know the faces of those who are protecting them.

Spokesperson for the Norkem Park SAPS, Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira said members of the CPF work for free and in partnership with SAPS to look after the community.

“The CPF needs torches and uniforms.

“The market also supported local charities.

There was entertainment on offer for children visiting the market.

“We are happy because it is the first time since Covid-19 that we have been able to host a market like this for the CPF.

“We all wanted to interact with the community and introduce the CPF again to bring back trust between the community, CPF and police,” said Ferreira.

Harvest Flea Market organiser, Orsilla Visagie said she decided to organise this for CPF because she appreciates the forum for the work done in the community.

Visagie hosts regular markets with her daughter, Andri Du Plessis as a way of giving back to the community and promoting local businesses.

The previous market organised by the duo was for the SPCA.

Small businesses supported the market in their numbers and visitors were treated to an array of foods, clothing stalls, homemade goods and entertainment for the children.
