Chesa Foundation continues to feed the needy

The Chesa Foundation continues to help those in need.

On August 4, Tshepo Phaho and his team again put time aside to prepare food for homeless people in Birchleigh.

They held the soup kitchen in the open field near the train station.

The foundation aims to bring hope to the hopeless and all other residents in the area who need a meal.

Phaho said he knows what it is like to struggle, so he wants to ensure those less fortunate get the help they need.

“Recently, I was so busy that I didn’t get a chance to have something to eat. It wasn’t until I started shaking from hunger that I realised someone out there dies without a choice to eat; at least I had one.

“There are many people who are really struggling out there, and I know I cannot help them all, but I just hope that one day, I will be able to do more than what I am doing now,” said Phaho.

Not only the less fortunate gathered to be fed, but Good Samaritans joined to help the foundation.

“I am so grateful for what Bra Tshepo and his team are doing for us. Our stories of how we ended up on the streets differ, but most of us didn’t wake up and say we would live on the streets.

“We all have different stories about how we ended up on the streets,” said one homeless man who asked to remain anonymous.

Phaho’s wife, Tinyiko Mathobela, said what started as a small conversation became a reality for the couple.

“It started with a conversation because we would usually walk or drive around to give out extra food if we had it.

There were more and more people who kept asking for food. We decided to gather everyone in one place and prepare food for them. So far, based on their reactions, the people we help appreciate what we do for them,” said Mathobela.
