Driver dies in horror crash on N1

A case docket of culpable homicide has been opened at the Midrand SAPS for further investigation, no arrests have been made.

A fatal collision involving two motor vehicles occurred on the N1 North and Olifantfontein Road on July 17.

The incident involved a truck and a passenger vehicle.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the passenger vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Tembisa Hospital by paramedics from ER24.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said both vehicles lost control on the N1.

“Preliminary information alleges that both vehicles were travelling north along the N1 when the truck collided with the vehicle causing it to lose control and move off the road.

“The driver of the truck also lost control and collided with the western side pole barricade, overturning and losing its load.”
