Lambden warned the court that a man had been attempting to threaten and bribe witnesses in the matter.

She added that this man pretends to be a lawyer and sometimes a private investigator, but he is neither.

Bouwer’s defence attorney, Hugo van der Westhuizen, dismissed the claims stating that it was the first that he had heard of attempts made to contact witnesses.

Lambden was adamant that she told Van der Westhuizen about the man but he stated that she should let him know if he contacts her again.

Van der Westhuizen said that he struggles to communicate with Bouwer as he’s in Modderbee Prison.

He told the court that he doesn’t think that his client had anything to do with witnesses being threatened, however, he is deeply concerned about this.

Additionally, Van der Westhuizen stated that the investigating officer had involved himself with aspects not involved with the investigation, such as digging into Bouwer’s personal affairs.

Van der Westhuizen added that no progress had been made in the case and that his client had been imprisoned for six months already.
