144 suspects nabbed by local flying squad

A total of 53 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 12 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Between July 19 and 25, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 144 suspects, recovering 53 motor vehicles and 16 firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 69 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, armed robbery, robbery, possession of house burglary implements, possession of unlicensed ammunition, theft, malicious damage to property, attempted murder, rape, housebreaking, kidnapping, shoplifting, illegal immigrant and drunken driving.

A total of 53 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 12 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Officers also recovered 16 unlicensed firearms accompanying 16 arrests.

In further policing, 47 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations will continue in all cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
