Residents of Kempton Park help raise funds for SPCA with colour fun

The market featured interesting stalls – from crafts, pet supplies, second-hand items, and home-baked goodies to food.

Kempton Park resident, Cassendra Moss recently held a colour fusion market at The Meeting Place in Croydon.

Moss said they aimed through the event to bring colour back into the community and, most importantly, to raise funds for the Kempton Park SPCA.

Moss partnered with her uncle Gavin and his wife Helen Stock, owners of The Meeting Place, to host the market.

Colour was added to the community.

This was the first time Moss organised such an event, but her uncle regularly hosts markets to raise funds for various organisations.

“My uncle hosts markets every second week of the month with other organisers to raise funds for organisations that might be in need,” said Moss.

Everyone had fun at the market.

Her love for animals motivated her to support the SPCA, which she feels is often overlooked.

“These animals deserve to be loved and taken care of. On Facebook, the SPCA shared they needed donations for their facilities and food, so I decided to step in.

“In the coming months, I believe the SPCA will be well taken care of, “added Moss.

“The goal of the fundraising event was to add colour back into the community of Kempton Park by creating a fun, safe space for families, pets, and vendors to participate,” said Moss.

“The event impacted the community by raising awareness of animal welfare issues and supporting shelters such as the SPCA through the sale of treats and a collection drive.”

It was a fun day for families because the event promoted community involvement in projects like the Urban Caracal Project’s (UCP) Snare Awareness initiative, small local vendors, the SPCA, and SANBS.

She said 48 vendors participated, with many donating a portion of their profit to the SPCA.

“Although donating a portion of their profits was not compulsory, we asked that our vendors donate at least one item to the SPCA such as a blanket, food, toys, and so on.

The pet-friendly market allowed families to enjoy a day out with their fur babies.

UCP participated in the event. They support animal shelters by selling treats and actively assist the community by raising awareness about domestic animals falling victim to snares.
