Casa Caritas CEO Chantell Kriel said seeing companies arrive with donations meant a lot.

“The home needs a lot of maintenance. We were so happy when some of the companies we reached out to came and assisted us.

“Iveco made it possible for us to achieve the maintenance that needed doing. Other organisations brought in donations, and that will really help us.

“On behalf of Casa Caritas, I express my gratitude and appreciation for what everyone has done for us,” said Kriel.

Iveco and the Arwyp Training Institution are just some of the groups that visited the home to hand over donations.

During the various donation drop-offs, Casa Caritas staff gave the visitors a tour of the home.

The team from Iveco also donated food items collected by staff members.

Iveco executive director Delray Vosloo said giving back is a way of life for her.

“What inspires us the most to do these kinds of initiatives is a way of life for us. We do it every year. As we wanted to try another area of giving back, we chose Casa Caritas.

“We wanted to give an opportunity to also give to these children and see what difference we can make in their lives,” said Vosloo.

Students from the Arwyp Training institution worked closely with the home, and this Mandela Day was no exception. Several students spent their day at Casa Caritas helping the staff with their duties.

Some of the students visited the home for the first time.

The Arwyp Training Institution’s Leona Buthelezi said Mandela Day means making a difference in someone’s life.

“Celebrating the 67 minutes of Mandela Day means making a difference in someone’s life.

“We normally visit Casa Caritas to assist with the residents. We decided to spend Mandela Day with the staff to help where we possibly can,” said Buthelezi.

Student Lubonakele Mgoyo said it was his first visit to the home.

“I wanted to show the residents love and care by doing something nice for them.”
