Kennels at Kempton Park’s SPCA get refurbished

The SPCA Kempton Park is now seeking support from the community to join their R100 club, which aims to secure a fixed income to support their work.

The Kempton Park SPCA recently completed its kennel refurbishment project.

The project aimed to ensure the existing kennels were safer and healthier for the animals in their care.

The kennels, which house dogs, cats, and occasionally rabbits, are temporary housing for animals awaiting adoption.

Kira Sparrow, manager at the SPCA, said there are 100 kennels in total.

Sparrow said they generally have 75 to 120 animals in the society at any given time.

According to Sparrow, the project had been in the works for many years, and she is grateful that it turned out the way it did.

“We have had several contractors come to quote, but none of them have followed through with the project.

“Sipho, who eventually completed the project, was referred to us by the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA after they completed their kennel refurbishment recently.

“I am glad that things turned out the way they did because I think that Sipho and his team have done a grand job,” said Sparrow.

The project, which began earlier this year, involved plastering, painting, and installing new mesh on most of the kennel blocks and replacing flooring in two of the blocks.

She thanked Sipho Tshabalala and his team as well as TLT Industrial Supplies, Painter’s Friend Bredell, Hyper Paints Edenvale, Cloete’s Sand and Stone and USM.

Sparrow said the kennels are maintained and cleaned daily by kennel hands, who are responsible for feeding, watering, and cleaning the kennels.

The SPCA Kempton Park is now seeking support from the community to join its R100 club, which aims to secure a fixed income to support their work.

Donations of R100 per kennel per month will support the care and well-being of animals in the refurbished kennels.

Sparrow said that they always try to attend markets and events in and around the community for an opportunity to raise awareness about the SPCA and what work we do.

“The completion of this project marks a significant milestone for the SPCA Kempton Park, and they look forward to continuing their work in the community.”
