Norkem Park Police warn of cyber fraud

“Avoid sharing personal information, such as birth dates, addresses, or financial details, on social media platforms."

Residents are advised to be alert following an increase in the number of fraud cases reported to Norkem Park Police Station.

Station commander Colonel Maunatlala urged the community to be cautious when receiving unsolicited emails requesting personal information or financial details.

“Legitimate companies typically do not request sensitive information on email,” said Maunatlala.

He said residents should use strong, unique passwords for their online accounts.

“Consider enabling two-factor authentication for added security and always be wary of clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown or untrusted sources, as they may contain malware,” said Maunatlala.

He added that members of the community should regularly monitor their bank statements and credit reports for any unauthorised transactions.

“Avoid sharing personal information, such as birth dates, addresses, or financial details, on social media platforms,” he said.
