City hosts Safety at Schools Dialogue with various entities

The event, held at the Olifantsfontein Community Hall on June 26, was part of Youth Month commemorations and aimed at promoting school safety.

The key theme of discussions at the Safety at Schools Dialogue was to develop a healthy relationship between learners and teachers.

The City of Ekurhuleni hosted the dialogue.

It featured various stakeholders, including SAPS, the Gauteng Department of Basic Education, social workers and Local Drug Action Committee members.

The event, held at the Olifantsfontein Community Hall on June 26, was part of Youth Month commemorations and aimed at promoting school safety.

Numerous stakeholders in Thembisa played a role in celebrating Youth Month through motivational talks and community engagement sessions to ensure a safe future.

This initiative saw residents receive vital information to preserve their future.

Mohale Ramoshaba urged parents and teachers to work with children to eliminate school violence.

“Schools are part of society, and every member has a role to play. Violence in schools is a reflection of a violent society. We will work with the stakeholders until we find peace in schools,” Ramoshaba said.

The Department of Basic Education and the Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention (CJCP) developed the National School Safety Framework (NSSF).

With this programme, the government works with schools to ensure safe school environments for successful teaching and learning.
