Bonaero Park residents live in a sewage mess

“We are honestly living under terrible conditions. The smell is horrendous and we cannot open our windows for fresh air."

Residents of Aeroparque Street in Bonaero Park said they have lived with overflowing sewage lines for around ten years.

They pinpointed the constantly overflowing sewage to three manholes on the street.

Residents claim sometimes it gets to a point where the sewage flows into their yards and they have to walk and drive through it.

Vernon says some of the sewage goes into park behind him and now residents cannot go there anymore.

Aeroparque Street resident Butch Vernon spoke to the Kempton Express.

“We are honestly living under terrible conditions. The smell is horrendous and we cannot open our windows for fresh air.

“The sewage stream passes over our gate, and we have no choice but to drive over it when we drive into our yard.

“Our tyres always have an awful smell because of that,” he said.

Vernon added he had to make alterations to his doors and water drains to keep the sewage out of his yard.
He said he feels he is forced to be stuck inside his house.

“We cannot even have guests at our house because of this. It is very embarrassing.

“As Aeroparque Street residents, we always report this issue, but the municipality never assists.

“Instead, our complaints get closed and tagged as resolved, even though municipal workers never came to look at what was happening.”

Vernon said one of his neighbours was ill and her condition was worsening.

He suspects the sewage outside her house plays a role in her deteriorating health.

“This situation is so bad that we have considered selling our home, but no one will buy a house in a street with a prevalent sewage problem.

“Our properties are losing value because of this.

The sewage has taken over half of the road and road users always drive on the other side to avoid it.

“We love it here. We raised our children here, and it’s heartbreaking what this area has become.”

“I would like the municipality to survey the sewage line. They can put cameras underground that may assist in determining the cause of all of this and also need to put new pipes,” said Vernon.
