SAPS nabs suspects and seize counterfeit money

Suspects aged 28 to 38 years, could not produce any legal documents in terms of the Immigration Act and were immediately arrested.

Officers from the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) on June 24 arrested six suspects and confiscated counterfeit money.

At around 11:00, Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Jean-Mare Eksteen patrolled along Snake Road, Benoni when security officers next to the road stopped them.

With the security officers were three suspects alleged to be illegal immigrants.

During investigations, the suspects aged 28 to 38 years, could not produce any legal documents in terms of the Immigration Act and were immediately arrested.

Still, on duty on the same day, CPF members contacted the two BFS members at around 16:00 to assist with three suspicious persons at Van Dyk Park Shopping Mall in Boksburg.

On arrival, the suspects’ actions were explained to the members resulting in searching them.

The three arrested illegal immigrants.

The three suspects aged 21 to 25 years were found to be in possession of three alleged counterfeit R200 notes and were immediately arrested. The officers handed the notes in at the SAPS as exhibits.

The suspects will appear before the local magistrate’s courts.

Investigations will continue.
