Local foundation makes a difference among the homeless

“We are looking for sponsors so we can do more. Now that it is winter, we are urging residents to donate blankets and warm clothing.”

The Chesa Foundation is a community foundation established in December 2023 by Birchleigh resident Tshepo Phaho.

The foundation aims to make a difference in the community by assisting the homeless.

“There are many homeless people and others that are in need in and around Birchleigh.

“I would sometimes give them food and clothes, but realised I could not help all of them. That is when I started an NPC so we could ask for donations and assist people,” said Phaho.

Sponsorship is usually an issue for most foundations, and for the Chesa Foundation, this is no different.

Tshepo Phaho loves assisting those in need.

“At the moment, we do not have sponsors. However, we could receive donations from community members who can assist,” said Phaho.

“In recent weeks, we have fed around one hundred people. The residents are assisting with whatever they can. I haven’t approached our local councillor yet to ask for assistance, but I plan to do so.

Phaho added, that feeding the homeless makes him feel he is making a difference.

He said he is grateful so far he has never experienced a shortage of food or not been able to feed everyone who showed up.

Phaho urged residents to never judge anyone without having walked a mile in their shoes.

“As Chesa Foundation, we would like to grow to where we help people in Birchleigh only and assist wherever we are needed,” he said.
