“Most importantly, we wanted to support each other to rebuild Ward 91 and to extend the idea to other wards to alleviate poverty,” said Lungile Mazibuko.

The market boasted a variety of food stalls along with books, toys and self-care products.

The CPF patrollers and Norkem Park SAPS were present at the venue to ensure the safety of patrons and vendors.
Sebolelo Tlhako said many Ward 91 residents are skilled entrepreneurs.

“As a result, we planned the market day to showcase their talent. I feel the community was happy to display their goods, and since this was our first market, we will improve the implementation and invite more stakeholders,” said Tlhako.

“I am also very proud that the response was good and very positive for vendors that participated.

“Our local CPF joined in and the SAPS was visible, so everyone felt safe at the market. The outcome was amazing,” she added.

Norkem Park CPF members were present at the market.

Golden Classics member Lizanda Joshua said numerous stall-holders had requested for monthly market days.

“We are strategising and planning to host another successful market soon.

“We realised the demand is high, and on our to-plan list we will prioritise that we have the market regularly to also boost our economy so our community can have the financial stability in our surroundings.”

Joshua added that the inspiration behind hosting the event at the park was due to the rising unemployment and to provide opportunities.
