R21 CLOSURE: Damaged cables secured, highway open
Eskom technicians were able to secure the damaged infrastructure and the roadway was opened for north and south bound traffic.

The R21 highway between Olifantsfontein and Nellmapius roads has been opened.
Eskom technicians have been able to secure the damaged infrastructure to facilitate the opening of the roadway.
Further repairs to the cables will be undertaken at a later stage.

Eskom has confirmed that technicians have arrived on site to repair the low hanging power lines on the R21 highway between Olifantsfontein and Nellmapius roads.
“The estimated restoration time is currently unavailable,” stated Eskom.

Motorists are advised that the R21 highway has been closed off in both directions after a powerline mast was damaged.
The damage resulted in high-voltage powerlines hanging dangerously low over the freeway.
The R21 north bound towards Pretoria will be closed at the Olifantsfontein Road off ramp.

The R21 south bound from Pretoria to Kempton Park will be closed off at Nellmapius Road.
Road users are advised to use alternate roads.
Motorists driving from Kempton Park to Pretoria can take the Olifantsfontein Road off-ramp towards Midrand while motorists driving from Pretoria can make use of the Nellmapius Road off-ramp through Irene and Centurion to connect to the N1.
No time frame has been given for the re-opening of the road.
