Join a mission of saving lives by donating blood – SANBS

Join the life-saving mission by spending 15 minutes of your day donating precious blood to someone in need.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) urged residents to donate blood as their blood stocks are dangerously low at the moment.

The SANBS needs your help to replenish the nation’s declining blood stocks.

SANBS will be at Lambton Court Shopping Centre in Germiston to March 15.
Doors open at 09:00, between Monday and Friday, till 19:00.

Kamantha Pillay, donor relations practitioner, said a unit of blood only lasts 42 days after donation and, for this reason, blood donors need to donate regularly.

“Donors can give blood as often as every eight weeks. Every unit of blood can save a minimum of three lives as blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets,” said Pillay.

“To find the location nearest to you, visit the SANBS website or you may consider motivating your employer to host a blood drive at your offices for the convenience of all staff members.”

Pillay said that blood is a precious resource that anyone can give to someone in need.

“We need your blood, with each donation you can save three lives,” said Pillay.
