R21 CRASH: Clean-up underway, traffic still affected

Traffic is still affected in both directions as clean-up operations continue on the R21 heading north.

Motorists are advised that traffic on the R21 is still affected as clean-up operations are underway.

This follows a mayonnaise spillage after a truck overturned near the Pomona Road exit.

Traffic is affected both directions.

• The R21 north (heading to Pretoria) one lane was open and traffic continues to back up.

• The R21 south (heading towards Kempton Park) slow traffic due to spectator value.

In video footage uploaded to X and shared on WhatsApp bystanders can be seen looting containers of the condiment.

Dale Gower from Jerico Training and Fire Industries has warned those took jars of mayonnaise from the scene to exercise caution.

“Broken jars, even those which are slightly cracked could be contaminated with small shards of glass. Ingestion of these could lead internal bleeding.

“Any jars not properly sealed as a result of the crash and spillage could also be contaminated with debris from the highway and this could lead to food poisoning if consumed,” he said.
