Office of MEC for Education and Youth Development engage with youth

“We are focused on finding opportunities for the youth in terms of jobs and skills improvement."

The office of MEC for education and youth development hosted a regional youth expo on March 5 at Rabasotho Community Center.

The event focused on creating opportunities and solutions for the youth. Services rendered included offering solutions on bursaries, learnerships, internships and skills development.

The youth were given an opportunity to visit numerous stalls inquiring about solutions that can help improve their knowledge in terms of how they can find employment, better their health and get funding to tertiary level.

The event was attended by various departments including the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), health, labor, home affairs and more.

Director of youth development in the GDE, Bongani Mabuse said the office of MEC is committed to bringing opportunities to the community of Thembisa.

“We are focused on finding opportunities for the youth in terms of jobs and skills improvement.

“We have people who have gained the knowledge from numerous institutions but do not have the right skills set to attract industries, this is where we enter to help them move toward the right direction”.

“This event is driven by five pillars which includes education, health, social coition, job creation and active citizenship hence you see we have all relevant departments to help spread the massage render services where they can,” Mabuse added.

Michael Makhubele from the Department of Labor (DoL) said the department is introducing a system that will help unemployed youth find employment based on their requirements.

“We wish to help those retrenched or unemployed find job opportunities through our platform.

“This is a national system that will help those who apply track, manage and oversee available job opportunities from the field of their choice.

“We wish to open provide information that will help elevate the lives of the youth which is why we are present at today’s event.”

Ward 6 councilor Patrick Tleane welcomed the community in a manner that provided ease and openness to those who wanted the opportunities offered by the MEC for education and youth development.
