Armed robber sentenced to 12 years by Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court

The case dates back to July 23, 2020, when a 16-year-old female learner was robbed of her cellphone at gunpoint, on her way from Norkem Park High School.

A middle-aged suspect prosecuted on a charge of armed robbery in 2020 was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on February 22.

The case dates back to July 23, 2020, when a 16-year-old female scholar was robbed of her cellphone at gunpoint, on her way from Norkem Park High School.

“More than three years ago, the EMPD’s Specialised Task Team deployed in the Northern Region, was activated and the task of finding a missing smartphone and the perpetrator was handled by constables Makgotlho and Makhokha,” said EMPD spokesperson Luietenant Kelebogile Thepa.

“The dedicated pair thoroughly investigated the case.”

Thepa said that the suspect involved was located and apprehended in Thembisa.

“The smartphone was recovered, still intact, and the suspect, who was positively identified by the victim, was imprisoned,” stated Thepa.
