Police arrest 91 suspects, recover 35 vehicles and firearms

Rapid Response held operations that led to arrests for crimes, including common assault and GBH, possession of car break-in implements and common robbery.

Between February 16 and 22, Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 91 suspects, recovering 35 motor vehicles and seven firearms.

The officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

The operations led to 47 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and GBH, possession of car break-in implements, common robbery, malicious damage to property, housebreaking, theft, possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle, bribery, murder, possession of unlicensed ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and rape.

They recovered 35 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Officers also recovered seven unlicensed firearms, accompanying 11 arrests.

In further policing, 25 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal meth were among the drugs confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local Magistrates courts across Gauteng.
