Armed robber shot and killed by his victim in Birchleigh

“The suspect pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded money and his cellphone."

The victim of an armed robbery shot and killed his attacker in Birchleigh on February 21.

According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira, the victim was at his gate when he was approached by the suspect.

“The suspect pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded money and his cellphone.

“The victim fell to the ground and managed to take out his licensed firearm.

“The victim then fired a shot at the suspect who then tried to flee to a nearby field.”

Ferreira added that the victim went to the area where the suspect was last seen and retrieved his cellphone from the suspect’s pocket to call the police.

“When the police arrived on the scene, the officer found that the suspect had been shot in the upper body and he was declared dead by paramedics.”

Norkem Park SAPS has requested that anyone who reported a person missing to contact Lieutenant Colonel Jones on 082 411 6879 or 011 960 0348.

The suspect is aged between 30 to 38 and was wearing a white vest, brown jacket, and blue pants.
During the alleged robbery, he was wearing a blue mask.
