Ekurhuleni SAPS deputy district commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, led Operation Shanela in Chloorkop on February 21 and 22.
Officers arrested 344 suspects for various crimes during the integrated operation.
Among others, the detectives arrested 143 persons for contact crimes, 20 for contact-related crimes, 20 for property crimes, 44 for crimes depending on police actions, and 17 for gender-based violence.

Members of the crime intelligence unit arrested a suspect who had four unlicensed firearms, three of them with erased serial numbers.
The suspect also had 58 live rounds of ammunition, dagga and other dangerous weapons.
The main operation was in the Olifantsfontein policing precinct, where the officers nabbed seven suspects for being undocumented and caught five suspects for dealing in liquor without a license.
A total of 67 motorists received traffic fines to the value of R23 900.
In line with the operation in Olifantsfontein, the officers also did an awareness campaign to address domestic violence, drug abuse and teenage pregnancy was conducted at Shalito informal settlement. They distributed pamphlets with safety tips to community members.

A street Imbizo was also conducted in that informal settlement to address some crime-related issues and so that the police could listen to the concerns raised by members of the community.
